In the wake of the Yixing Company’s dissolution in 1919, the Tan Clan recognized the imperative for a well-organized entity to protect their rights. By 1937, inspired by the establishment of various town-based groups in Johor, the ancestors sought to emulate a clan organization, renting a space at No. 20 Ming Li Street for communication and office use.
Despite initial disregard from overseas Tan leaders, the organization, bearing the inscription “Yong Chuan,” gradually garnered attention. Within two years of informal activities, it gained approval from Johor’s Tan leaders, prompting unanimous agreement on the need to strengthen and formalize the organization for greater contributions to country and society.
