Rumah Berhala Tien Hiew Kiong 柔佛士姑来天后宫
From Guangdong to Johor, Ye Huo Sheng’s Journey and the Sacred Tien Hiew Kiong Temple
The founder of Rumah Berhala Tien Hiew Kiong was Ye Huosheng, originally from Chixi, Tiandou, Guangdong Province, China. In his early years, he migrated to Singapore and settled in Bukit Timah, where he operated a grocery store and also worked as a pork vendor. Later, he moved to Sg. Tiram, Johor, to enjoy his retirement.
Due to a dream guided by Mazu (Goddess of the Sea), instructing him to find her golden statue, Ye searched several times without success. Finally, beside a large tree along a river in Singapore, he discovered a wooden box. Inside the box, he found the golden statues of Mazu, Pu’an (a Buddhist monk), and Xuantian Shangdi (God of the Dark Heaven). In 1892, he brought these statues to Sg. Tiram for enshrinement. Ye Huosheng passed away in 1965, leaving behind one son and one daughter.
