Hakka Heritage Unveiled, The Evolution of Persatuan Hakka JB
Founded in 1926, Persatuan Hakka JB, initially known as Tong Yuan Club, established its first clubhouse on the 3rd floor at No. 15 Jalan Nam in Johor Bahru on 1st January 1927. A year later, the second clubhouse relocated to No. 39 Jalan Ibrahim, Johor Bahru, and officially opened on 7th December 1928. This clubhouse still stands today, although it is currently leased to others. The third clubhouse, situated on Jalan Inai in Johor Bahru, was originally a funeral parlor operated by the association. In 1992, it ceased its funeral services and transformed into a community activity center.
Following the completion of the topping-out ceremony for the Hakka Building, the association plans to invest RM4.5 million for the second and third phases of renovation. Spanning 63,800 square feet, the Hakka Building received government approval to be named Hakka Square (Wisma Hakka).
